About Melanie Cane

Melanie Cane holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wellesley College, a Medical Degree and a Master’s in Public Health from New York Medical College. She also completed two years of a residency program in psychiatry at Cornell Medical Center-Westchester Division.

Dr. Cane fulfilled her pre-medical requirements at Harvard University and co-authored several articles in the field of mental health while working as a research assistant at Mclean Hospital prior to attending medical school.

Melanie grew up in Scarsdale, NY with a father who suffered from severe bipolar disorder. She has recovered from Borderline Personality Disorder, Major Depression, and Anorexia.

Melanie works as a photographer and writer for a local paper and has a pet sitting business as well.

 

Recent News

On January 29th, 2009
Melanie was the honored recipient of the New York State Assembly Certificate of Merit. The award was presented by New York State Assemblyman George Latimer to recognize Ms.Cane's official release and author reception for her book POISONED LOVE.

Things to Come

Melanie is currently working on the proposal for her next book Doctors Without Orders – True Stories of Physicians Who Lost Their Medical Licenses as well as applying for a fellowship grant to the Rosalyn Carter Foundation to do research on how families cope with having a mentally ill child.

Melanie's goal is to give hope to people whose lives have been adversely affected by mental illness. To this end, she is available to speak to groups about her own experiences.
