Jimmy Breslin is a Pulitzer Prize winning American columnist and author. Jimmy Breslin has written nearly a dozen books, and columns of his have appeared regularly in various newspapers in his hometown of New York City. Jimmy Breslin was a regular columnist for the newspaper Newsday until his retirement in November 2004, which ended the full time part of a 40 year career that has made Jimmy Breslin perhaps New York City’s best known living newspaper columnist. Jimmy Breslin won the Pulitzer Prize in 1986 for columns that consistently championed the ordinary citizens of New York City. Jimmy Breslin received a George Polk award in 1985 for Metropolitan Reporting. In 1882, Jimmy Breslin wrote a front page article in New York Newsday about my story called Her Love Was Poison. The tile of my book, Poisoned Love, is derived from the title of his article.
Jimmy Breslin was viciously attacked and beaten by a mafia thug in 1970, for an article he wrote. He survived the attack without permanent damage. In 1977, at the height of The Son of Sam Scare, the killer, David Berkowitz, addressed letters to Jimmy Breslin.
Among his most notable columns is the one Jimmy Breslin wrote the day after John F. Kennedy’s funeral, focusing on the man who dug Kennedy’s grave. The column is indicative of the style of Jimmy Breslin, which often highlights how major events or the actions of those considered “newsworthy” affect the “common man.”
Jimmy Breslin came to visit me at jail to tell me about the article he wrote about me and also to tell me he had a potential movie deal for me. My book, Poisoned Love, is my side of the story Jimmy Breslin wrote about me 15 years ago.
